TMJ Massage Therapy Portland

Targeted treatment for jaw pain, headaches, clenching, and restricted movement

Does This Sound Like Your Jaw?

You may be looking for help with:

  • Aching or tightness around the jaw
  • Soreness associated with clenching or grinding
  • Jaw fatigue or discomfort while chewing
  • Difficulty opening your mouth comfortably
  • Tenderness around the cheeks or temples
  • Jaw symptoms that occur alongside headaches or neck tension

These symptoms can have different causes. Your experience helps guide the session, but symptoms alone do not establish a diagnosis.

Massage Therapy for Jaw Pain and TMJ Dysfunction

TMJ symptoms are often influenced by tension and dysfunction in the jaw, face, neck, shoulders, and upper back. Treatment is personalized to your symptoms and may include focused work to the muscles surrounding the jaw as well as related areas contributing to pain and restricted movement.

Conditions and Symptoms We Address

  • Jaw pain or tightness
  • Clicking or popping in the jaw
  • Difficulty opening the mouth
  • Headaches and facial pain
  • Neck and shoulder tension
  • Pain while chewing
  • Jaw clenching and teeth grinding
  • Symptoms associated with stress or postural strain

Our Approach to TMJ Massage Therapy

We look beyond the location of the pain to identify muscular patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms. Treatment may include neuromuscular therapy, trigger-point techniques, gentle jaw work, and focused treatment of the neck and shoulders.

Our goal is to decrease pain, improve jaw movement, and help you better understand the factors affecting your symptoms.

External and Intraoral TMJ Massage

External massage works through the skin around the jaw, temples, face, and neck. Intraoral massage uses a gloved finger inside the mouth to reach selected soft tissues that are less accessible from the outside.

Before intraoral work, your therapist explains the technique and obtains written and verbal consent. You can decline it, ask questions, or stop at any time. Your preferences remain part of the treatment plan throughout the session.
