Neuromuscular Therapy in Portland

A thoughtful, precise approach to pain built on more than two decades of study and clinical experience

Neuromuscular Therapy Is More Than a Technique

One of the most important lessons I (Brandon Saggio) have carried into my practice from more than 22 years of studying with Doug Nelson, the founder of Precision Neuromuscular Therapy, is that effective treatment requires curiosity and clinical reasoning—not simply applying techniques.

When someone comes to us in pain, we want to understand more than where they hurt. We want to explore why they may be hurting there.

At Precision Healing, neuromuscular therapy is not a routine performed the same way on every client. It is a process of listening, assessing, treating, and reassessing.

Pain can be complicated. The place where you experience pain isn’t necessarily the source of the problem, and two people with pain in exactly the same location may need very different approaches.

Our goal is to understand as much as we can about your particular situation and provide focused treatment based on what we find.

When someone comes to us in pain, the most important question isn’t simply “Where does it hurt?”

It is:

“Why might it hurt there?”

The Precision Neuromuscular Therapy Approach

Much of our clinical philosophy comes from Precision Neuromuscular Therapy (PNMT), an approach developed by Douglas Nelson, a nationally recognized massage therapist, educator, author, and founder of BodyWork Associates in Champaign, Illinois.

PNMT emphasizes something that has become central to the way we practice at Precision Healing:

Don’t simply memorize treatments. Learn how to solve problems.

Instead of assuming that a particular symptom always has the same cause, we consider multiple possibilities and use the client’s history, movement, palpation, response to treatment, and clinical reasoning to help determine where to focus.

That means treatment isn’t based on a recipe.

It is based on the person on the table.

Our Connection to Precision Neuromuscular Therapy

Precision Healing’s connection to this work is deeply personal.

Founder Brandon Saggio, LMT, has studied Precision Neuromuscular Therapy with Doug Nelson for more than 22 years.

What began as continuing education became a long-term commitment to understanding pain, anatomy, palpation, clinical reasoning, and the art of working with people experiencing difficult musculoskeletal problems.

Over those years, Brandon continued studying with Doug and the Precision Neuromuscular Therapy community, bringing those principles back to his own clinical practice in Portland.

That education became one of the primary influences behind the treatment philosophy Brandon used when he founded Precision Healing in Portland in 2009.

Today, those principles continue to influence how we approach treatment and how Brandon helps educate and mentor the therapists at Precision Healing with neuromuscular therapy.
